Simancas, a Venezuelan computer technician living in Chile, and his 49-year-old father Meydell Simancas, an anesthesiologist, had been paddling inflatable yellow kayaks for about two hours when the unexpected drama unfolded under cloudy skies.
Without any warning, the calm sea erupted as the humpback whale surfaced suddenly, its enormous mouth wide open, engulfing the young man and his entire kayak in one swift motion.
