Traveling the remote Buntine Highway in his Mitsubishi Challenger, the 35-year-old Queensland man encountered strangers on the roadside claiming to be out of petrol.

In an act of kindness, Megee offered one a lift, unaware this decision would lead to his vanishing.

Soon after, he felt increasingly dazed and confused, suspecting his drink or a syringe had been spiked with drugs.

Megee blacked out, waking later in a remote part of the Tanami Desert, possibly buried in a shallow grave covered by plastic and dirt.

Robbed and abandoned, he found himself naked, without shoes or his vehicle, alone in the merciless outback.

For 71 grueling days, survival became his only focus as he foraged for lizards, snakes, frogs, insects, and edible plants.

He drank collected rainwater and his own urine to stay hydrated while building crude shelters from whatever materials he could find.

Emaciated and severely weakened, losing over half his body weight from 104kg to around 45kg, Megee wandered aimlessly, chasing signs of water.

On April 5, 2006, a group of young stockmen on a cattle station stumbled upon the gaunt figure, describing him as a ‘walking skeleton.’
