Singer and Jonas Brothers member Nick Jonas has opened up for the first time about the traumatic and painful experience of his daughter Malti Marie’s birth.

In an interview on the ‘On Purpose with Jay Shetty’ podcast, the proud father detailed the intense circumstances surrounding Malti’s arrival in January 2022.

The couple, including wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas, had planned for Malti to arrive in April but received a sudden call that the surrogate birth was happening earlier than expected.
Rushing to the hospital, they witnessed their baby girl born prematurely at a tiny one pound eleven ounces and appearing purple, indicating immediate medical distress.

Nick credited the NICU team as ‘angels’ who quickly resuscitated Malti, intubated her, and provided critical initial care to stabilize the newborn.
The infant required six blood transfusions as part of her ongoing treatment in the neonatal intensive care unit where she spent the first three and a half months of her life.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Nick and Priyanka dedicated themselves to their daughter’s recovery by taking 12-hour shifts at the hospital to be by her side constantly.
Jonas described the experience as both comforting and frightening, noting the visceral memories like the hospital smell and seeing other families in similar situations.

Malti fought every day, gradually gaining weight and strength thanks to the exceptional medical support and her parents’ unwavering presence.
After the transfusions and months of care, Malti was finally well enough to go home, marking the end of an incredibly challenging chapter for the family.

Now a healthy and vibrant young girl, Malti’s story serves as an inspiration, and Nick’s openness helps raise awareness about premature birth challenges and NICU heroism.
