In a horrifying case of mistaken identity, Andreas Christopheros, a successful property developer from Truro, Cornwall, became the victim of a vicious sulfuric acid attack in December 2014.
What began as an ordinary evening at home turned into a nightmare that would leave him with lifelong injuries.

As Christopheros opened his front door, a stranger hurled a beaker of concentrated sulfuric acid directly into his face.
The attacker, later identified as David Phillips, uttered the chilling words, “This is for you, mate,” before fleeing the scene.
At the time, 30-year-old Christopheros was a thriving businessman running property developments and involved in organizing events like the Run to the Sun festival.

He lived with his wife and young 18-month-old son, enjoying a promising future.
Unbeknownst to him, Phillips had driven over 300 miles from Sussex, believing Christopheros had wronged a member of his family.
In reality, Phillips had targeted the wrong address in his misguided quest for revenge.

The acid immediately began eating away at his skin, clothes, and the hallway floor.
His wife rushed to aid him, sustaining burns to her feet, while Christopheros screamed in agony as emergency services were called.
Rushed to hospital, Christopheros suffered severe chemical burns to his face, arms, and torso.

He lost vision in one eye completely and sustained damage to the other, marking the start of an arduous medical battle.
Over the following years, he endured more than 60 painful surgeries and skin grafts.
The attack caused permanent disfigurement, scarring, and ongoing pain, fundamentally altering his appearance and daily life.

Phillips was arrested and later sentenced for causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
The court recognized the devastating impact on Christopheros, who appeared in proceedings wearing a silicone mask to cover his injuries.

The trauma affected his entire family. Christopheros kept his young son away from his bedside initially to shield him from the sight, while his wife provided unwavering support through the darkest times.
Despite the ordeal, Christopheros has shown remarkable resilience.
He has become an advocate for acid attack survivors, calling for stricter regulations on corrosive substances and harsher penalties for perpetrators.
